Understanding Eating Disorders in Women

Eating disorders are serious mental health conditions with severe physical and psychological impacts. They often stem from a combination of genetic, biological, behavioral, psychological, and social factors. Our program addresses all these aspects through a comprehensive, multidisciplinary approach.

Women are particularly vulnerable to eating disorders because of the following reasons:

  • Diet culture – Women are constantly bombarded with messages of “ideal” body images that are difficult or impossible to meet. This obsession with dieting can lead to an unhealthy relationship with food and the development of disordered eating patterns.
  • Low self-esteem – Women often feel inadequate and not good enough, leading them to develop negative body image issues and unhealthy dieting habits.
  • Stress – Women are more likely to experience high-stress levels due to their roles in society, such as work and childcare responsibilities. This can contribute to disordered eating behaviors.
  • Trauma – Women may have experienced traumatic events in their lives that can lead to the development of an eating disorder.

It is essential to tailor a program to meet the unique needs of women. We focus on building a safe space where women can identify their triggers, understand their patterns and behaviors related to disordered eating, gain insight into underlying issues contributing to their condition, and explore healthier

Conditions We Treat

We treat all major eating disorders with a focus on the following three conditions:

Bulimia Nervosa (BN)

BN is characterized by recurrent episodes of binge eating, followed by compensatory behaviors such as purging (self-induced vomiting, laxative or diuretic abuse), fasting, or excessive exercise.

Anorexia Nervosa (AN)

AN is an eating disorder involving extreme food consumption restriction and intense fear of gaining weight. People with AN may also have an intense focus on body shape and weight.

Binge Eating Disorder (BED)

BED is characterized by recurrent episodes of eating large amounts of food in a short period of time, often followed by feelings of guilt or shame.

At Virtue Recovery Las Vegas – Eating Disorders, our approach to treating eating disorders in women emphasizes the importance of holistic healing. We combine evidence-based therapies, nutrition counseling, physical activity, and lifestyle changes to help our clients gain insight into their condition and develop healthier relationships with food and body image. We aim to empower women to make meaningful, lasting changes in their lives.

Our therapists use evidence-based approaches such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), and other therapeutic modalities to help women understand and change harmful thought patterns and behaviors.

Group Therapy

Group therapy provides a supportive space where women can share their experiences, learn from others facing similar struggles, and build a community of mutual support and understanding.

Nutritional Counseling

Our registered dietitians provide personalized nutritional counseling, helping women rebuild a healthy relationship with food and establish sustainable eating habits.

Medical Monitoring

Eating disorders can lead to serious medical complications. Regular check-ups with our healthcare team ensure the physical health of our clients is being closely monitored and addressed.
